This book was released on 1974 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A breakaway pole has been designed and developed and tested to satisfy the requirements for a frangible light support structure. This pole consists of four tapered sections and one straight section assembled to form a unitary structure approximately 20 feet high. The basic structure is shown by analysis to satisfy the requirements for survival in a 75 mph wind with 1/2 inch of radial ice, and a 100 mph wind with no radial ice, with factors of safety of 4.3 and 3.2 respectively. Deflection under a 45 mph wind is 0.6 of the allowable value. Tests of the joints in the pole were performed to optimize the pole performance. (Modified author abstract).
