Book excerpt: The Alaska Ranger Trilogy is a collection of epic wilderness adventure stories from nearly thirty years of exploration and discovery of America's Last Frontier. This is my life story, from birth, hell and chaos in the Twin Cities at the height of the Vietnam War to joining the Marine Corps Infantry at the height of the Cold War with the Soviet Union in the mid-80's. I deserted the Marines when Bush Sr. sent my unit to illegally invade Lybia in 1987. I vowed to lead a revolution against tyranny in 1991 and assembled an Army of 1500 Black Irish Mercenaries to take out Bush n all members of government.Shortly thereafter I experienced the proof I had asked for years earlier when I proclaimed, "There is no God." yet knowing if there was, he was going to understand why I was going cold-turkey with religion. I either wanted to fully believe or not believe at all. And I saw no evidence of a kind Creator. I saw only war and chaos w brief glimpses of beauty and mystery that were quickly snuffed-out by those who do harm. While preparing to storm Washington, D.C. and take out all members of government, an angel came to me n said in a soft yet very ancient, wise tone, "Bush is not your enemy... you must go within to find your enemy.""Yeah, right." I thought. "Cliche."Yet, there was no doubt in my mind that it was the spirit world talking to me. And that was the first of hundreds of encounters I had with angels and guides and spiritual beings just "beyond the veil". I didn't believe in any of it or anything. I was a hard-core scientific and scrutinizing mind. I had to have proof for everything. Well, I it was given to me.In 1993, I met Snowleopard the Apache Medicine Man. That encounter n the work n training we did together changed my life forever. Everyday, twenty years later, I am still doin what he showed me.This is December of 2012, the month time is prophesied to end. I feel like it's just the beginning.I rather create new stories than tell old ones, but there is something important about sharing this collection that is beyond my comprehension. Life itself has inspired me and encouraged me and provided for me first the epic wild adventures and now the writing and sharing of it with you.One day, after decades of dedicated service as a Ranger and a so-called Healer and martial arts instructor and guide and all that, Mother Nature said to me, "You are done. It's time to sail away."I thought she meant to die, like sailing off into the West in the Lord of the Rings. That's what I felt like doing. I was so exhausted trying to help people who really did not want to be helped.Instead of dying, though, the benevolent Life Force, known by many names, granted me a sleek, wooden sailing ship. It was exactly what I had asked for and envisioned for years.I was in disbelief and thought it was too good to be true. I kept seeing a shipwreck in my mind's eye every time I tried to imagine the journey.I sailed a ship solo to my favorite destination on Earth and fulfilled my wildest dream... living wild and free. Discovering Hawaii was unexpected and I found myself following the whales back and forth to Alaska for a decade. There is a wealth of wisdom and danger and humor and tragedy mixed these three books within a book. Some of the stories were written as they were happening and are presented here unchanged from the original adventure journal notes.Other stories are from memory. I even experimented with speaking in the 2nd person which is not the same, but a different perspective. This Trilogy is a work in progress with many more chapters to include as opportunity and enthusiasm provide for.Enjoy the vicarious adventure. In some cases you will be glad that you are only reading the story and not living it. In other cases, this Trilogy was written to inspire you to experience for yourself some of the wild, beautiful and often outrageous encounters with Alaska's great wilderness... beauty and vastness beyond comprehension.
