Book excerpt: In this dissertation we have examined the sources of The Creation and have introduced, beyond the biblical and literary ones recognised by official scholarship, even the kabalistic sources of the esoteric and Rosicrucian tradition handed over by the teachings of the book of Zohar, Fludd and Luria. We have explained that the themes of traditional historiography on the Enlightenment, especially expressed in an anti-political and anti-religious key as authoritatively presented by Hazard and Groethuysen are not applicable to Haydn's personal and musical vocation.
