Book excerpt: "This research assesses the experience of users in two different urban riverfront parks in order to identify specific criteria that ensure a successful design of urban waterfront parks through accommodating basic human needs and enhancing users' experience. The primary objective of this thesis is to examine the user experience of two research sites and identify how basic human needs are being met, or ignored, throughout the design. The intended outcomes of this study are to survey and analyze the human needs and user experience of two urban riverfront parks in two different cities. The selected sites, chosen by the researcher, were the North Shore Riverfront Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and The Smale Riverfront Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. Based on the collected and analyzed data, design suggestions and guidelines for the research sites will be concluded." -- Abstract.
