As a result, in FY 2009, the city will spend roughly $1 billion on energy costs for its buildings and operations. New York City Mayor Bloomberg established the Energy Conservation Steering Committee, charged with developing and implementing a long-term action plan to reduce the energy consumption and GHG emissions of the city¿s municipal buildings and operations by 30% by 2017.
