A recent theme has been the notion of waveform diversity that is tailored to the nature of the distributed array. In this thesis, the use of waveform diversity in the detection of weak targets buried in interference is investigated. Two diversity schemes studied are varying pulse FM rates at each transmitter and frequency diversity via Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), a concept borrowed from wireless communications. The use of OFDM eliminates problems with previously proposed frequency diversity schemes. The thesis also investigates the implementation of efficient adaptive processing schemes such as Joint Domain Localized (JDL) processing.
