Book excerpt: This study examines the differences between smart fans and mark fans in how the two fan groups identify with their favorite wrestlers. By using a mixed method, the study determines the level and depth of identification that exist between the two fan groups and their favorite wrestlers. The study discovered that smart fans and mark fans differ in their motivations for their consumption of professional wrestling, and that the motivations help determine the fandom level Possibilities for future research into this area of study are also discussed.
