He is purported to have immigrated to America in 1720. He married Frances Warner (ca. 1718-1748/9), a native of Connecticut, in February 1737/8, probably in New York. They had three children, 1738-ca. 1748. He married 2) Mary Husted (b. 1732) in ca. 1749. They had eleven children, ca. 1750-1776. His son, Lewis De La Vergne (1738-1805), a soldier in the Revolutionary War, married Rachel Greene (1737/8-1806) in 1759 at Amenia, New York. They had seven children, 1760-1779, born at Amenia. Descendants lived in New York, Michigan, Illinois, New Jersey, Missouri, and elsewhere.
