Motivated behavior must contribute to the ends of the enterprise. The understanding of motivational theory, coupled with discussion of management practice and attitudes, allows the organization to point out obsolete thinking and inadequate management behavior. The goal-achievement process is comprised of conditions, opportunities and media for motivation. Within a goal-setting system, the organization and individual goals can be integrated through a general, organizational model in which abilities and performance are measured. Long- and short-range goals, set by both managers and emplyees within the organizational structure, provide a standard of achievement and criterion for success through which meaning is placed on jobs and motivation increased.
