Book excerpt: Rayalaseema became part of Andhra Pradesh from 1st November, 1956 when it was formed by merging Andhra state with Telangana region which was in Hyderabad state. Rayalaseema is one of the 3 natural divisions before the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh state in the year 2014. In respect of both area and population, Rayalaseema is the smallest region with 4 districts. In Rayalaseema region, the industrial activity was started with the establishment of resource based industry(food and agro based) in 1942 and one more unit was setup in 1949. Further 2 more demand based(Textile) industries were also started in 1950. In 1850, Dr.King of geographical survey of India surveyed the limestone deposits in Kurnool-Cuddapah area belt and suggested the establishment of demand based industry(cement industry). Ultimately, the Panyam cement industry was started in950-60. Besides, adding 2 more each of resource based (food and agro)and demand based textile industries. The decade from 1960-70, a spiral growth of demand based(textile industries) in Rayalaseema. However the flood gates of establishing different categories of industries here opened during the next decade. Significantly among them are phenomenal growth of resource based(food and agro based). Subsequently, the decline in industrial growth was witnessed in Rayalaseema.
