Book excerpt: The horticulture seminar, given one year ago by Mr. Marucci, outlined the research that had been undertaken in the effort to control the epidemic virus disease known as "stunt." At present, as a result of this and other research, either one or both of the externally-similar sharp-nosed leafhoppers, Scaphytopius magdalensis and S. verecundus, are known to be vectors of the disease, and their control with DDT and methozychlor has been established. The belief that the resistant Rancocas variety is as attractive to the adult hoppers has been confirmed. Roguing has been shown to be a practical control measure, if the incidence of infection is low, and if the field is isolated from other infected fields. Chemotherapy experiments have been continued, but with as yet uncertain results.
