Thus, for instance, when in the first Gospel we have over and over again, as was natural in a Gospel written for Jewish readers, the expression that it might be fulfilled which was spoken, we may very well paraphrase that for ourselves that there might be a realization of that which was spoken. This will help us a little in solving the difficulty which troubles some minds when St. Matthew or St. Paul adopts Rabbinic modes of explanation of the older Scriptures.
