Book excerpt: This causal-comparative study examined how well South Sudanese refugees in Greater Middle Tennessee could get through daily life on their own. The research measured how English proficiency, social support, culture, and education affected economic self-sufficiency. The study also explored public assistance program, employment, and income. The researcher used surveys to collect quantitative data. In addition, he conducted interviews to collect qualitative data among the participants to determine whether the predicated barriers were related to economic self-sufficiency. Learning participants' financial situation and their attitudes towards work were significant to gaining insights. The sample size of 64 showed an improvement in economic autonomy, but many lacked competitive skills in the labor market. The study would significantly impact the livelihoods of this population.
